Lynch Architects’ extension to the Westminster Coroner’s Court is complete. Withernay Projects joined the team back in 2016 and was pleased to reunite with the design team at the building recently. Artist Brian Clarke’s stained glass windows are extraordinary, especially on a summer’s evening. The Guardian’s Rowan Moore reviewed the finished project here, where photographs of the interior and stained glass are also included.
Highbury Fields
The existing Oasis in the Park Cafe: a single storey building surrounded by railings, parasols and cafe tables with mature trees in full leaf behind.
A proposal for a new cafe and wildlife garden on the site of the Oasis cafe and bandstand by Levitate for London Borough of Islington that Withernay Projects provided access consultancy for received planning approval yesterday.
The larger building will provide internal and external seating, a kitchen, public sanitary facilities and areas for staff in a new timber structure delicately placed among the trees so as not to damage their roots.
The Highbury Fields Bandstand formerly housed a stay and play service but the building has been vacant since this closed in 2020. The single storey building is in a poor state of repair and will be replaced by an exciting new teaching space and surrounding wildlife garden.

‘Great Things Lie Ahead 2020’ transformed Holborn House in Camden into a more fitting and much more accessible venue for the longstanding Holborn Community Association. 6a architects incorprorated bespoke artwork by Caragh Thuring into the glazed facade of the building. Withernay Projects advised on the internal layouts, finishes, lift and sanitary facilities as well as dealing with a constrained approach and level change at the entrance. The project was highly commended for the Selwyn Goldsmith Award for Universal Designand also won an RIBA National Award and RIBA London Award in 2023.
Central Somers Town by Adam Khan Architects was also a winner. The building provided ten social homes, community play facilities, a youth club and rooftop Multi Use Games Area. Each element of the internal and external play areas was carefully considered with regard to the principles of inclusive design and guidance about inclusive play.
